Glow Up Guide

By Jamie Quinn

Every bride wants to feel her best on her wedding day, and a little extra care for your skin can make a big difference. From smoothing out fine lines to adding a fresh glow, pre-wedding skin treatments are a great way to prep for the big day. With the right schedule and a mix of effective treatments, you’ll be all set to walk down the aisle feeling confident and radiant. Here’s a look at some of the most popular options and how they can help you get there.

Facials

Benefits: Facials help cleanse, hydrate, and rejuvenate the skin, targeting issues like dryness, oiliness, and dullness. They’re also excellent for enhancing circulation and creating a radiant glow.

Process: A facial typically includes cleansing, exfoliation, extraction (if needed), massage, and a hydrating mask, all customised to your skin type.

Timeline: Begin facials about six months before your wedding and schedule them every 4-6 weeks for optimal results. A week before the wedding, book a final hydrating facial for a natural glow.

Micro-needling

Benefits: Micro-needling is effective in reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. By encouraging collagen production, it creates firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

Process: Micro-needling uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and collagen production.

Timeline: Start treatments about nine months in advance, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Since micro-needling can cause redness and minor irritation, avoid scheduling it within a month of the wedding.

Chemical Peels

Benefits: Chemical peels improve skin tone and texture by exfoliating the top layer of skin, revealing a fresh, smooth layer underneath. They can also help reduce acne scars and fine lines.

Process: Peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes it to peel off over several days. The depth of the peel can vary depending on skin needs.

Timeline: If using medium-depth peels, start six months before the wedding, spaced a few weeks apart. For lighter peels, schedule a final one, four weeks before the big day.

LED Light Therapy

Benefits: LED light therapy addresses acne, inflammation, and ageing signs. Different light wavelengths target different concerns, making it a versatile addition to a pre-wedding skincare regimen.

Process: This painless, non-invasive treatment uses specific light wavelengths to penetrate the skin and promote healing and rejuvenation.

Timeline: LED therapy can be done every week, starting three months before the wedding. A session the week before the big day will give skin an extra radiant boost.

Hydrodermabrasion

Benefits: Hydrodermabrasion combines exfoliation and hydration, leaving the skin smooth, hydrated, and plump. It’s suitable for sensitive skin and provides immediate results.

Process: Using a specialised device, hydrodermabrasion exfoliates the skin while infusing it with hydrating serums.

Timeline: Schedule one treatment each month for the last three months before the wedding. A final session a week prior can maximise hydration and leave skin looking radiant.

Injectables

Benefits: Injectables like Botox or fillers can smooth fine lines, enhance facial contours, and restore volume, helping you look refreshed.

Process: Botox relaxes specific muscles to reduce wrinkles, while fillers add volume and enhance features.

Timeline: Start Botox or filler treatments six months before the wedding to allow time for adjustments. Schedule your final treatment at least a month before the wedding to ensure natural-looking results.

With a well-timed skincare regimen, you’ll be on track for that wedding-day glow. Consult with a dermatologist or licensed professional to customise a treatment plan suited to your skin’s unique needs.
