Forever Floral Press specialises in custom floral artwork; based in Wellington but taking orders from all over New Zealand, Carolyn, owner and artist, creates beautiful, bespoke keepsake pieces for couples to commemorate their big day.
Can you explain what flower pressing is and how it works?
Flower pressing is the process of flattening flowers and foliage to remove moisture and preserve the shape and form of the flower. Flowers add a touch of love and kindness to those special moments, and preserving them and framing them creates a meaningful piece of art to be admired for years to come.
What is the difference between having your bouquet pressed, and having them dried?
Pressing bouquets will present them in a 2D format, whereas drying is 3D. I prefer pressing as it offers more creative freedom. You can do more varied designs with pressed flowers, and my custom frames facilitate a more 2D design. Both will retain the shape and essence of the flower but in different interpretations.
How do you define your “style” of flower preservation?
Whimsical, artistic and thoughtful. Every petal is carefully considered, and I love to be creative with each commission and really showcase my artistic style. I have a degree in fine art, so the design comes very naturally to me; I want the clients to see my work as not only bridal preservation but also art.
What is the most important thing a bride needs to consider if she wants to have her bouquet preserved?
Treat the bouquet with care and make sure it stays hydrated and in good condition. Tossing the bouquet is not the best idea if you want to preserve it afterwards. Also, have a plan in place if you want a loved one to deliver or courier the bouquet. I prefer to receive them within three days, so time is of the essence.
What if the wedding has been and gone, and the bride forgot to pre-book bouquet preservation beforehand?
I offer a recreation design. In this case, it’s best to reach out to your florist and make sure the flowers in your original bouquet are in season so you can get a replica. Then courier them to me, and I can preserve them.
